ABOUT PJ

Home | Contact

PJ Steverman was probably one of the funniest people I have ever had the joy of knowing.  Not only was I the lucky girl to call him my brother, but he was and still is the driving force that keeps his family going each day.

PJ was born on St Patrick’s Day, 1975.  He grew up in a very large family and even larger extended family.  He was loved by everyone around him and cherished for eventually showing all of us what life was really about.  PJ loved Hockey, Maria’s subs, the Spit, Minot Beach, Boats, Fishing, Working, and most importantly, his friends and family.  PJ struggled in school, but gave it his all, as he did with everything in life.  He was a popular kid with lots of friends and a close knit group that he stuck to, through thick and thin.

He was raised in Scituate, all of his life, by his parents, Paul and Lynda alongside 2 sisters, Kristen (older) and Anna (younger).  He attended Hatherly Elementary School, Gates Intermediate School and graduated from Scituate High School in 1994.  He then went on to continue his education and hockey career at Tilton School in Tilton NH.  He graduated his post graduate year from Tilton in 1995, what he would tell you was the best year of his life.  From Tilton, PJ continued onto college in Henniker, New Hampshire.

PJ chose New England College because it was a small school and he “wouldn’t get lost.”  After playing, and winning, his first college varsity hockey game in November of 1995, PJ attended a college party with other teammates to celebrate their victory.  Being a freshman, PJ did not know many people.  As the night went on, PJ decided that he was ready to leave this party that was located, roughly, 2 miles from campus.  It was dark, cold, and snowy near the house and he began to walk back to his dorm.  PJ got lost in the woods.

After an extensive four and a half month search, from Thanksgiving to Easter, PJ’s body was found in a wooded area, about a quarter of a mile from the house that he was last seen at.

We have this golf classic each year to give back to the community that once gave so much to us.  The support and generosity that the Town of Scituate provided for us when we were in the greatest need is unexplainable and incomparable to anything we could give back, but we do what we can.  This is the way to keep PJ alive in our hearts, and keeps us going every day.

FROM THE STEVERMANS

We would like to invite you to join us this year for the 16th Annual PJ Steverman Golf Classic to be held on Friday September 16th at 1:00 pm at Widow’s Walk Golf Course in Scituate.  Immediately after the day of golf, we will have our annual dinner, raffle and auction at The River Club in Scituate.

Your generosity helps far beyond the day of the golf tournament. The PJ Steverman Golf Classic has raised over $300,000 for the Friends of Scituate Recreation, Inc. Included, you find a list of many of the projects and donations that we have made to the Town of Scituate as a result of the generosity of our players and sponsors.

The most important accomplishment to date is "Choices."  Choices is a professional documentary that tells the story of P.J.'s life and tragic death.  The target audience for this video is high school seniors. Since the premier of Choices in 2006 the Steverman Family has presented Choices to thousands of students throughout the South Shore.  We are confident that this documentary will educate high school graduates to think twice before making any "choice" in life.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely yours,

The Steverman Family &

The PJ Steverman Golf Classic Committee

The Steverman Family has had an exciting year.   Since last year’s tournament Anna has met and married the love of her life, Daniel Patrick Shea, on March 7, 2009.
